In United States of America, a new Texas law has been implemented that enables liquor intoxicated drivers to pay child support from zero to eighteen year old (18) when they kills child’s guardian or parents.

The new Texas law requires the drunk driver to pay some amount of money as child support to the relatives, or family of the victim’s until he or she gets to 18 years.

Bipartisan House Bill went into effect on Friday September 1, 2023. Where children of the victim will receive child support until they turn 18 years of age or graduate from high school.

The bill was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbot on the second day of the month of June.

Abbot tweeted on July 22th that “Any time a parent passes is tragic, but a death at the hands of a drunk driver is heinous.

The court will determine the monthly payment depending on a number of factors, inclusively the financial needs of the child’s and the surviving parent or guardian, if there is one as well as the financial resources of the defendant.

The payment are to be made to a surviving parent, a guardian or Department of Family and Protective Service, if the child is placed in their care.

If the defendant is not able to make the necessary payments because of imprisonment, they should begin payment no later than one year after being released.

The defendant must pay all the Arrearages regardless whether restitution payment were scheduled to terminate while the defendant were confined or imprisoned in the correction we facility.” States the law.
