Residents of Ikorodu road on Saturday laments as tanker with full load of gas leaks content causing panic in Lagos as traffic is diverted to avoid explosion.

The Lagos State director of Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) mrs Margaret Adeseye said the tanker developed a fault within the inlet of its compartment while on motion. Said the incident happened at 9 am.


She reassured residents that traffic has been diverted in the area to prevent any form of disaster while emergency responders try to put the situation under control.


“While the Agency was alerted at 09:04hours Saturday, the Ilupeju Fire Station with their quick response ameliorate the situation with a chemical foam compound to forestall ignition and any eventuality of a secondary emergency.

 

“This incident had led to the diversion of traffic as other emergency responders have teamed up with the State Fire and Rescue to avert disaster as traffic were diverted from the Barracks end and Stadium section of Western Avenue.

Adeseye added that no casualty was recorded and that more update will be shared with the public.”


The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) also confirmed the incident, saying the tanker driver hit the newly erected barrier at the stadium bridge.


LASTMA, in a statement by Adebayo Taofiq, its director of public affairs, said “the tanker spilled its content while trying to force its way under the newly-erected barrier.”

The agency obliged that the driver was handed to the police for questioning.
