Doctor dies after 72 hours shift in LUTH, Lagos.

Umoh Michael a medical doctor have died after go through a 72 hours surgery without a Break at the Neurosurgery unit in Lagos University Teaching hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba.

This was addressed in a letter by the Association of Residents Doctors to the LUTH chief medical director. The doctors in the letter titled “An appeal by The House Officers Of LUTH accused their senior colleagues of bullying, issuance out stressful call hours without breaks and not providing feeding and accommodation. 

The letter is addressed as:

“We the house officers are in deep grief over the loss of our colleague, a co-house officer (Dr Umoh Michael” who died on the 17th September, 2023 after having a 72hrs call in Neurosurgery Unit”.

The doctors accentuated in the letter that their senior officer were fond of bullying and issuing of long call hours without a due break and this equally attracted mental stress which make them uncomfortable during work.
