Six under age victims alongside a 24 years old trafficker Mercy Sese arrested by operative of NAPTIP in Makurdi~details below
A 24 years old young lady named Mercy Sese has been sentenced to 7 years jail term with the option fine of N4.5million naira for sex trafficking in Benue.
The presiding judge, justice Abdudogo made the pronouncement on Wednesday at the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi Benue. The accused was sentenced for sex trafficking of underaged girls to neighboring country Mali for prostitution.
Caydenmiles reports that, the offense which in contrary to section 18-27 (29) of the prohibition law of Trafficking in Person Enforcement and Administration Act 2015.
Mean while, the Makurdi zonal command for the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) arrested miss Mercy Sese at a popular motor park in Makurdi earlier this year.
Mr Gloria Bai, the NAPTIP zonal command said huge sum of money including foreign currencies were also recovered from the lady Mercy Sese.
It was also disclosed that “The command in the early hours of the Friday, January 7, 2022, received an information from a patriotic citizen phoning them from Duku motor park at Wurukum, Makurdi who alerted the command of a suspected case of human trafficking involving seven ladies of which one is the suspected trafficker, she stated
“Officers of the command arrived at Duku motor park shortly after reviving the call on getting there they met six ladies who said they were tractor Lagos including Sese the trafficker.
“The victims whom are below and above the ages of 16 and 24 years old by facial analysis, at the time of their arrival the Nigeria police force were also on ground after they were also alerted.
“N500,000 naira were found with the suspected trafficker with some amount foreign currencies confessing that the victims were to be transported to a destination outside the country that is yet to be determined.
“The ladies were then taken to the office of the police in company of the officers of NAPTIP who were carrying out a preliminary investigation for onwards transfer to NAPTIP for further investigation and possible prosecution.
